Description

What kind of wine is it

Ricci Derhona by Daniele Ricci is an organic white wine made from Timorasso grapes, capable of expressing the character of the Colli Tortonesi. With a bright straw yellow colour, it reveals clear notes of citrus and sweet spicy hints on the nose. On the palate, it is fresh and balanced, with a harmonious and inviting progression. Thanks to the absence of filtration, the wine preserves its expressive integrity, offering a straightforward experience that is true to its place of origin.

Where does it come from

The grapes are grown in Costa Vescovato, in the heart of the Colli Tortonesi, where Daniele Ricci's family has been cultivating vines since 1929. The vineyards, situated at around three hundred metres above sea level, take root in soils rich in Tortonian marl. This unique geological matrix imparts a distinct character and perfect harmony to the wine. The influence of the terroir is directly reflected in the glass, ensuring a strong territorial expression that enhances the natural qualities of the variety.

How is it produced

Vinification involves a spontaneous alcoholic fermentation triggered exclusively by indigenous yeasts. The must is left to macerate on the skins for three days in steel tanks, without any temperature control. Subsequently, the wine matures for ten months in the same containers, before completing its ageing in the bottle. The absence of filtration and clarification keeps the aromatic profile intact, delivering an authentic wine that highlights the organoleptic nuances and vibrant drive of Timorasso.

History and Curiosities

Since 1929, the Ricci family has been cultivating vineyards on the Colli Tortonesi, continuing a tradition that lives on in Derhona 2022, an elegant organic white wine made from pure Timorasso. Born in Costa Vescovato on soils rich in Tortona marl, the wine is the result of authentic winemaking: spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and three days of skin maceration. Ten months of ageing in steel and the absence of filtration produce a glass with a brilliant straw-yellow colour, featuring citrus and sweet spice aromas, for a fresh and balanced sip.

Cascina San Leto is nestled in an amphitheatre of vineyards, just a few turns from the centre of Costa Vescovato. The property in the Tortonese Hills was purchased in 1929 by the grandparents of winemaker Daniele Ricci, who immediately planted between six and seven hectares of vineyards. In a context, territory and market that had changed profoundly, he (born in 1963, third generation) had decided to uproot them: until about twenty years ago, in fact, his main job was something else.

Today, the estate's vineyard area covers approximately 15 hectares, out of a total of 25 hectares of land. Most of it (12 hectares) is concentrated in a single block around Cascina San Leo, where small quantities of ancient grains are also grown, and there is an orchard, a vegetable garden and a farmhouse. The rest (3 hectares) is in Carezzano, where in 2022 Daniele started a new project together with his son Mattia, who was born in 1996 and represents the fourth generation.
