Description
What kind of wine it is
Pietra Magica Langhe Rosso by Mirafiore is an organic red wine that enhances the union between Barbera and Nebbiolo. It displays a light garnet colour, opening with a bouquet marked by clear floral and fruity notes. On the palate, it is complex and full-bodied, offering a fresh sip with a long finish. Thanks to skilful ageing in large Slavonian oak barrels for a year, the tannins are softened, lending great elegance to this blend, which pairs beautifully with game, pork and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
It originates in Serralunga d’Alba, in the renowned Langhe region, from vineyards at two hundred metres altitude facing south and south-west. The vines sink their roots into calcareous marl soils, ideal for imparting tension, clarity and a potential longevity of up to fifteen years. Mirafiore has cultivated these plots since 1878 with strict sustainable practices. The name Pietra Magica recalls the fascinating discovery, made in the 1980s, of two ancient anthropomorphic sculptures found guarding a historic row of vines on the Vesime hill.
How it is produced
Vinification employs meticulous techniques in classic cement vats. During fermentation, a targeted delestage is performed: the Nebbiolo must is separated and rests on the Barbera skins for two hours, then returns to its original pomace. Once the alcoholic phase is complete, a slow submerged cap maceration lasting up to sixty days extracts the substance and defines the tannic structure. Finally, the spontaneous malolactic fermentation naturally balances the acidity with the wine’s full structure, completing the harmony of the sip.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1878 in Serralunga d’Alba, Casa E. di Mirafiore links the identity of this organic red wine to the evocative tales of Cesare Pavese about the ancient pre-harvest fire rituals. The name Pietra Magica pays tribute to two ancient anthropomorphic sculptures discovered in the 1980s guarding a historic Piedmontese row of vines. Cultivating prized cru vineyards over 25 hectares of dedicated land, the winery preserves tradition by vinifying in classic cement vats, then enhances the elegance of the wine through ageing in large Slavonian oak barrels.

Since 1878, Casa E. Di Mirafiore has been overlooking this UNESCO world heritage landscape with his estates in Barolo and Serralunga, the heart of one of the world's most famous wines: Barolo. It is also thanks to Casa E. Di Mirafiore that the world is aware of Barolo. It is in fact the first winery to export Barolo worldwide.
This estate is synonymous with quality, as it is home to two of the best Cru vineyards in the Langhe: Lazzarito (on one of Serralunga d'Alba's most magnificent slopes) and Paiagallo.
In this town, Serralunga d'Alba, tradition is never forgotten. Even today, the style of Casa E. Mirafiore is defined by fermentation in concrete tanks and enormous Slavonian oak barrels for ageing. Read more

| Origin | Serralunga d'Alba (CN) |
| Soil composition | Calcareous marls |
| Production technique | Maceration on the skins with delestage at mid-fermentation and submerged cap maceration (up to 60 days), with spontaneous malolactic fermentation |
| Wine making | At mid-fermentation, when the Nebbiolo is on its skins, a délestage is carried out by separating the wine from the skins and passing it over the Barbera skins for at least 2 hours. After this process, the wine is returned to the original Nebbiolo skins; once alcoholic fermentation is complete, the wine macerates with the cap submerged for up to 60 days. Malolactic fermentation occurs naturally, softening the tannins and balancing the acidity with the body. |
| Aging | Aged in large Slavonian oak barrels for 1 year |
| Allergens | Contains sulphites |
