Description
What kind of wine it is
Barolo Brunate by Marcarini is a still red wine with Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin, made from Nebbiolo grapes, an authentic expression of the renowned Langhe region in Piedmont. To the eye, it displays a garnet red colour, enriched by clear ruby highlights. On the palate, it reveals a powerful and commanding character, supported by a velvety and warm texture that envelops the sip with remarkable persistence. Fermentation in steel and ageing in oak barrels give the wine a solid balance, contributing to a complex and fascinating aromatic profile.
Where it comes from
The roots of this wine lie in Piedmont, in the famous Brunate cru, one of the most historically renowned areas located between the municipalities of La Morra and Barolo. The vineyards are situated at around three hundred metres above sea level and benefit from optimal south and south-west exposure, which favours the full ripening of the grapes. The soil is distinguished by a calcareous and clayey matrix, characterised by a significant presence of magnesium, a fundamental geological element that gives the wine savouriness and a well-defined structure.
How it is produced
Production begins with a rigorous selection of the grape bunches in the vineyard. In the cellar, fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature, accompanied by a maceration on the skins for about four weeks in steel tanks to extract colour and structure. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matures for at least two years in Slavonian oak barrels. This process shapes a broad and complex bouquet, where intense aromas of cherry, blackcurrant and violet blend with notes of liquorice, vanilla, tobacco and undergrowth.
History and Curiosities
Renowned since the 1300s, the Brunate cru embodies the purest expression of the Langhe. For generations, the Marcarini family has devotedly cultivated 4.5 hectares of historic vineyards, planted between 1978 and 1987. Since as early as 1958, the bottles have borne this illustrious designation, enhanced by meticulous selection during the harvest. Preserved in the iconic Albeisa bottle, the majestic Barolo Brunate 2021 has been awarded the AIS Four Vines and the extraordinary score of 99/100 from James Suckling.
