Description

What kind of wine it is

Derthona Timorasso by La Spinetta is a still organic white wine from Piedmont, made from Timorasso grapes grown in the Colli Tortonesi. It displays a dry, full-bodied style with great structure, supported by lively acidity and a distinct savouriness. On the nose, it develops aromas of citrus and white flowers, enriched by typical mineral and hydrocarbon notes. The palate reveals a generous and complex character, with a clean and persistent finish.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from the municipalities of Montemarzino, Montegioco and Monleale, in the Derthona area. The vineyards benefit from south-west and south-east exposures at altitudes between 350 and 400 metres, encouraging regular ripening and excellent aromatic definition. The vines sink their roots into marl-limestone and clay soils, with a sandy tendency. This terroir gives the wine a marked gustatory energy and precision over the years.

How it is produced

The process begins with destemming and gentle pressing, followed by skin maceration to extract the grape variety's aromatic essence. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in small stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures, preserving the freshness of the aromas. The wine then matures on its own fine lees for about eight months, gaining volume and depth, before finishing with a period of rest prior to release.

History and Curiosities

The Timorasso Derthona Colli Tortonesi DOC by La Spinetta celebrates the excellence of an ancient native Piedmontese grape variety. The Spinetta winery was founded by the Rivetti family, Argentinean emigrants who came to Italy with the dream of producing their wines. The winery's name derives from the place where the family settled, at la Spinetta (hilltop) in Castagnole Lanze, the production area of Moscato d'Asti, a light and fresh wine to be enjoyed with desserts. And it was precisely by realising the potential of this wine that the Rivetti family began producing the Moscato Biancospino and the Bricco Quaglia. The desire for growth of the Spinetta winery manifested itself in the production of a red wine, Barbera Cà di Pian, which was followed by others such as Barbaresco, Barbera d'Alba Gallina until 2000 when the well-known Barolo was produced. La Spinetta wines are the result of an intense study of the terroir, with a preference for indigenous varieties and a path that sees its greatest work in the vineyard, since to achieve great results most of the work must be done in the vineyard and the rest in the winery. The La Spinetta wines featured on Xtrawine are characterised by their balanced taste with bottles that have received important awards from: Bibenda, Gambero Rosso, Veronelli and AIS.. Xtrawine offers bottles from the best vintages of 2013 and 2014 made from varietals such as: Nebbiolo, Blend Rosso and Sangiovese. Read more
