Description
What type of wine it is
Hofstätter's Barthenau Vigna S. Michele Pinot Bianco is a still white wine with a South Tyrolean controlled designation of origin, vinified and aged in barrels and concrete tanks. Produced from Pinot Blanc grapes, it reveals a deep aromatic profile, dominated by hints of ripe pear, apple, white flowers, and almond flour. On the palate, it offers a silky and enveloping texture, supported by a fruity core and well-integrated acidity that provides freshness. Delicate accents of toasted hazelnuts enrich the sip, culminating in a mineral and savoury finish of remarkable persistence.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the prestigious Vigna San Michele plot, located on the southern edge of the Mazon area. This high-hillside vineyard benefits from optimal sun exposure and the constant ventilation that characterises the slopes above the Adige River. The soil is distinguished by a clayey conglomerate with limestone and porphyry, rich in fine gravel and stones, fundamental elements for conveying tension and clarity to the wine. Hofstätter manages the rows with gentle pruning and cover crops, preserving a vegetative balance that enhances the natural vocation of the mountain terroir.
How it is produced
The vinification aims to preserve the integrity of the fruit through a short cold maceration and soft pressing. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in oak barrels and, partially, in steel tanks. Maturation involves careful ageing on fine lees, accompanied by regular stirring that provides body and structure. The resting period takes place in a balanced manner between the use of barrels and concrete tanks, concluding with a period of bottle ageing to ensure a long-lived and refined profile.
