Description

What kind of wine is it

Comte Lafond Sancerre by Baron de Ladoucette is a still white wine with controlled designation of origin from the Loire Valley, made from Sauvignon Blanc grapes. It stands out for its dry and balanced profile, the result of slow fermentation in steel and partial ageing in oak barrels, where a pronounced minerality blends with a solid and enveloping structure. The bouquet is rich and deep, characterised by aromas of white flowers such as hawthorn, accompanied by notes of mulberry, peach and exotic fruit. On the palate, it expresses freshness and vibrancy in a harmonious sip, leading to a long and persistent finish of great elegance.

Where does it come from

The grapes come from the renowned Sancerre area, located in the eastern part of the Loire Valley. This region is famous for its varied soils, distinguished by chalk outcrops and a matrix of clay, limestone, flint and silt. Such diversity creates ideal microclimates that shape the character of the grape variety: soils rich in flint impart a vibrant mineral tension, while the marls of Verdigny provide balance and fruity notes, supported by the structure typical of white clay and limestone soils.

How is it produced

Vinification involves a slow fermentation in steel tanks for six to eight weeks at a controlled temperature, in order to preserve the purity of the primary aromas. The wine then matures on the lees for a period of three to six months, gaining body and roundness. Afterwards, part of the batch is aged in oak barrels for six to twelve months, enhancing its complexity of flavour. The process is completed with a period in enamelled tanks and a final maturation, for a total cycle of about two years that defines its full expressive maturity.

History and Curiosities

The Comte Lafond Sancerre AOC originates from the prestigious Domaine de Ladoucette estate, whose roots in the Loire Valley date back to the 18th century. This refined Sauvignon Blanc pays tribute to the illustrious founding ancestor, Count Lafond, who was the first to purchase vineyards in the Loire.

From this winery
One of the most famous and long-lived cellars of the entire Burgundy is in the hands of the Ladoucette family since the eighteenth century, from 1787 exactly, the year in which the then owners, the Comte Lafond family, bought the land from the illegitimate daughter of the French king Louis XV .

Over the years, the constant work of the family has transformed the wines of Pouilly-Fumé into products of excellent quality, making them very capable of rivaling high heads with all the remaining best whites in the world. In 1972, the Baron de Ladoucette inherited the original land and extended it by buying plots in the Sancerre, Pouilly-Fuissé, Chablis, Champagne, Vouvray and Chinon regions, thus extending the family's centuries-old wine-making business. .

Today the maison de Ladoucette is able to perfectly match technological innovation and winemaking tradition, quality and great numbers, aiming to maintain the link with the territory and its microclimate, and creating top-of-the-range products in every area. In the vineyard, every precaution and every agronomic practice are aimed at maintaining the balance of the environment and the ecosystem unaltered, and the plants are reared with care and with meticulous care to say the least. In the winery, tradition has it that each plot and each single cru are vinified separately, so as to enhance and enhance the intrinsic characteristics of the fruit and the peculiarities deriving from the composition of the soil: from de-stemming to crushing, from fermentation at controlled temperatures until aging. , each step is strictly supervised and managed so as to work the grapes keeping them distinct according to the parcel of origin.

From all this come to life labels to say the least extraordinary, among which we can mention one to recall them all, remembering the Pouilly-Fumé "Baron del L", wine that is produced only in the best vintages and that, with its extreme elegance and with its exceptional finesse, is currently unanimously and unequivocally recognized not only as one of the best French Sauvignon, but in general as one of the best Sauvignon in the world.
