Jean Chartron

Established in 1859, Domaine Jean Chartron is now in its fifth generation of winemaking, based at Puligny-Montrachet. Jean-Michel Chartron runs the 13 ha operation with father Jean-Rene overseeing. The domaine has holdings in 16 appellations, 9 of which are in Puligny-Montrachet, the proportion of premier and grand crus notably high, and 90% of its production is in white wine. Its reputation is high nowadays, as its aspirations, but there have been challenging periods that have needed to be worked through. The land at Puligny-Montrachet, being low with respect to the water table has not enable a cellar, so the domaine sold its fruit to negociants for much of its life.
