Antica Fratta is the guardian of a tradition handed down from generation to generation, where every detail tells the timeless history and elegance of Franciacorta.
Fratta is the name of this small hamlet in the district of Monticelli Brusati on historic maps dating back to Napoleonic times. The name comes from the ruggedness of the mountains of glacial and alluvial origin which stand out against Franciacorta’s Morainic hills.
As a mature man Franco Ziliani was intrigued by the characteristics of this land, and changed the fortunes of a small area of unknown origin which concealed a cellar dating back to 1850, known in local dialect as el cantinù, featuring vaults dug out of the rock for storing hundreds of litres of wine.
Since 1979 Antica Fratta has been working tirelessly to obtain timeless Franciacorta wines which best represent our terrain and each plot’s characteristics, be it situated on gently rolling hills or in the most inaccessible valleys behind the winery. As with the founders who nurtured the fortunes of this historic winery, every generation operates in its own era with the ongoing desire to safeguard an enduring location and continue bottling the emotions of a wine that can be enjoyed for years to come.
