Description
What kind of wine it is
Epokale Gewurztraminer Spatlese from Cantina Tramin is a still aromatic white wine from late harvest. To the eye, it displays an intense straw yellow colour with bright golden highlights. The bouquet releases enveloping aromas of rose petals, spicy white flowers and exotic yellow-fleshed fruit, enhanced by notes of citrus and warm spices such as ginger, saffron and nutmeg. On the palate, it is full and deep, revealing a pronounced juiciness balanced by a fresh acidity. The residual sweetness blends harmoniously with a distinct minerality, delivering a finish of extraordinary persistence.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from mid-altitude vineyards in Alto Adige, an area characterised by a continental climate. The rows, mainly facing south-east, benefit from significant temperature variations, with days warmed by Mediterranean influences and nights cooled by mountain breezes. These conditions are essential for the development of a complex aromatic richness. The soil consists of calcareous gravel and clay, resting on a solid base of porphyry rock. This specific geological composition gives the wine its typical mineral character and supports its complex structure.
How it is produced
Production begins with a manual late harvest, followed by a brief cold maceration and gentle pressing. Fermentation takes place slowly at a controlled temperature in small steel containers, where the wine rests for a long time in contact with the lees. The most distinctive stage of maturation involves six years of ageing inside the Ridanna Monteneve mine, at over two thousand metres above sea level. In this underground environment, in total darkness, the wine remains at a constant temperature and high humidity: conditions that guarantee an exceptional ageing potential and preserve its original freshness over time.
History and Curiosities
Created by the historic Cantina Tramin, Epokale evokes the glorious tradition of South Tyrolean Gewürztraminer by enhancing its residual sugar. The prized grapes from the late harvest of 2017, selected from the oldest vineyards, give it a powerful soul. To preserve its exceptional freshness, the wine undergoes an exclusive maturation in a mine at over two thousand metres above sea level, resting for six years in the darkness of Ridanna Monteneve. Acclaimed by critics, this rare masterpiece offers unparalleled aromatic complexity and longevity.
