Description
Type of wine
Tenuta delle Terre Nere’s Etna Bianco is a still organic white wine with a controlled designation of origin that expresses the authenticity of the Etna territory in Sicily. Produced from a blend of indigenous grapes such as Carricante, Catarratto, Grecanico, Inzolia and Minnella, it releases aromas of white flowers, lime blossom and apple, enriched by a slight smoky touch. Vinified and aged in steel, it is dry and fresh on the palate, guided by an elegant savoury and mineral trail. The clean finish makes it the ideal companion for seafood and shellfish, white meats and Asian cuisine specialities.
Origin
The wine originates on the northern slopes of Mount Etna, in the municipalities of Randazzo and Castiglione di Sicilia. The vineyards are located between 600 and 900 metres above sea level, divided into famous crus such as Guardiola, Calderara and Feudo di Mezzo. The volcanic soils, rich in stones and black earth, infuse the palate with a marked savouriness. The marked mountain temperature variations favour a clear aromatic profile, forging a vertical and taut style that perfectly embodies the soul of this unique Sicilian terroir.
Production process
The vines are cultivated according to the principles of organic farming, with the harvest taking place in the first ten days of October. In the cellar, after a soft pressing of the bunches, static cold settling follows. Fermentation takes place in steel tanks at a controlled temperature, preserving the integrity of the original fragrant aromas. Ageing for at least five months in stainless steel preserves the wine's innate vivacity, ensuring a silky texture and a vibrant purity of taste.
History and curiosities
Founded in 2002 by Marc de Grazia, Tenuta delle Terre Nere showcases old vines on the northern slopes of Etna, in volcanic micro-territories often compared to those of Burgundy. The exceptional Etna Bianco DOC was first produced in 2005 from native grapes grown in the Guardiola, Calderara and Feudo di Mezzo crus, once cultivated intermingled among the red grape rows. Through rigorous organic farming, the winery translates the unmistakable minerality of that precious “black earth”, from which its profound winemaking history originates, into the glass.
