Description
Style of wine
Kurtatsch's Kerner is a still white wine with the Alto Adige Controlled Designation of Origin, made from Kerner grapes, offering an intense and refined aromatic profile. On the nose, fragrant notes of lilac and yellow peach stand out, while on the palate it is distinguished by a marked mineral character, supported by a solid acidic structure that makes it taut and vibrant to drink. The finish is long, persistent and characterised by very low residual sugar, enhanced by fermentation in steel and ageing on fine lees. This incisive freshness makes it the ideal pairing for fish dishes and cheeses.
Origin
This white wine originates in Alto Adige, where the estate's vineyards brave extreme altitudes. The grapes ripen in plots located at eight hundred metres of altitude with an easterly exposure, a microclimate ideal for gradual and complex aromatic development. The vines take root in sandy and clay soils, rich in quartz and dolomite, minerals that infuse the sip with an evident gustatory tension. Agronomic care is entrusted to Kurtatsch, a historic winery that guides local winegrowers on a path of sustainable viticulture aimed at enhancing the vocation of each individual mountain plot.
Production process
The oenological process is designed to preserve the aromatic precision of the grape variety and maintain a dry and vertical profile. Temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel protects the purity of the primary aromas, keeping the freshness of the fruit intact. Subsequently, prolonged ageing on fine lees enriches the wine's structure, providing the right roundness to balance the natural acidic drive. The result is an extremely dynamic, balanced glass of wine with great character.
History and facts
Founded in 1900, Cantina Kurtatsch brings together 190 families dedicated to sustainable viticulture. Kerner, a historic cross between Schiava and Riesling famous for its resistance to frost, reaches its expressive peak at high altitudes. The grapes ripen at 800 metres on soils rich in quartz and dolomite, benefitting from an ideal eastern exposure in a territory unique in Europe, which ranges from 220 to 900 metres in altitude. This altitudinal range and the artisanal work in traditional mountain farms shape the unmistakable purity of this Alto Adige DOC.
