Description

What kind of wine it is

DeLoach Heritage Reserve Chardonnay is a Californian white wine produced by DeLoach. On the nose, Chardonnay reveals notes of orange blossom and honeysuckle, combined with delicate hints of melon. On the palate, it displays a medium body and pronounced freshness, supported by a pleasant creamy texture. The flavours range from tropical hints of pineapple, papaya and mango, enriched by subtle touches of vanilla and honey that lead to a lingering finish. The harmony between acidity and roundness makes it ideal for pairing with lean fish, shellfish, poultry and vegetarian dishes.

Where it comes from

Production takes place in California, in the renowned Russian River Valley, an area famous for its favourable soil and climate conditions. DeLoach stands out for its strict commitment to sustainable viticulture, adopting eco-friendly practices for careful environmental management. The agricultural approach, transitioning towards organic and biodynamic methods, involves the use of cover crops to preserve and enhance soil vitality. This meticulous work in the vineyard results in a wine of great expressive clarity and perfect aromatic balance.

How it is produced

The winemaking process is designed to maintain the freshness and vibrancy of the fruit. Fermentation mostly takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, preserving the expression of primary aromas. A small portion of the must ferments in wooden barrels to develop additional structure. The two batches are then combined in a careful blend, where the subtle influence of oak enhances the softness without overpowering the natural aromas. At the end of the process, a light filtration ensures the wine’s absolute clarity.

History and Curiosities

Originating from the Russian River Valley, this exceptional Californian Chardonnay celebrates the prestigious heritage of DeLoach Vineyards. The winery, which covers an area of seventeen acres, is a pioneer of sustainable viticulture, adopting strict organic and biodynamic practices in full respect of the environment. Thanks to the targeted use of cover crops to regenerate the soil and minimally invasive winemaking, each glass encapsulates the perfect harmony between the vitality of nature and the purest American winemaking tradition.

From this winery
As a pioneering producer and winegrower of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Zinfandel in Sonoma’s Russian River Valley, DeLoach Vineyards has been experimenting with and perfecting the best combinations of soil, rootstock and clones for over four decades. In 2003, the Boisset family brought two generations of sustainable winemaking experience from Burgundy, France to California’s Russian River Valley and started transitioning the 17-acre estate vineyard to organic and Biodynamic farming, creating by pulling up the vines and planting cover crops to revitalize the soil. During the replanting, DeLoach partnered with winegrowers equally dedicated to and passionate about eco-friendly farming practices and producing high-quality wines — relationships that continue today.

When this Russian River Valley Pinot Noir and Zinfandel Great were purchased by the scion of a prominent French wine company, the focus of the operation became less "mainstream," not more. Like Benziger, Deloach celebrates its organic and Biodynamic certified status and encourages visitors to learn more in its garden experience and tasting flights.

Owners Suzanne Hagins and Chris Condos are so committed to making wine only from certified organic grapes, they say so right on the label! It’s not as common as you might think. Both career winemakers, this husband and wife team have managed to put together a little garden oasis amid the apple trees of Sebastopol. They also pour organic cider, with wine fresh from the tap at their stylish tasting room. Look for their new certified organic wine, too — which means no sulfites added — when it’s available, as well as a Biodynamic wine or two.
