Description
What kind of wine it is
Vign’Angena by Capichera is a still white wine from Sardinia that expresses the purity of Vermentino grapes, vinified exclusively in stainless steel. As an expression of the controlled and guaranteed designation of origin Vermentino di Gallura Superiore, it presents a straw yellow hue with slight greenish reflections and elegant aromas of orange blossom, iris, hawthorn and yellow apple. On the palate, it is fresh, lively and supported by a full and fragrant body. The soft and balanced structure leads to a persistent mineral finish, making the wine an ideal companion for light starters, shellfish and refined seafood dishes.
Where it comes from
The grapes are grown in Gallura, in the territory of Arzachena, where the winery cultivates its rows on the typical Sardinian granite soils. The vineyards are situated at around one hundred and twenty metres above sea level with an east-west exposure, enjoying ideal climatic conditions for the ripening of the bunches trained using the simple Guyot method. This environment encourages a very defined expressive profile. The name Vign’Angena, which in the Gallurese dialect means “vineyard of others”, recalls the land originally leased and today represents a deep connection with the territory and its winegrowing vocation.
How it is produced
The harvest takes place between the end of August and the beginning of September, with the aim of preserving the fragrance of the fruit. Fermentation occurs exclusively in stainless steel tanks, a deliberate choice to enhance the freshness and spontaneous expression of Vermentino. The process is completed with careful maturation in tank until spring. This method, which completely excludes the use of wood, allows the aromatic clarity to remain intact and accentuates the mineral component, resulting in a dynamic, precise and balanced sip.
History and Curiosities
Born in 1994, the Vermentino di Gallura Superiore DOCG Vign’Angena owes its name to the Gallurese dialect, in which it means “vineyard of others”, recalling the period when the grapes were grown on rented land. Today, it is the emblem of the Capichera winery, capable of encapsulating the soul of the granitic soils of Arzachena.

Capichera's story began in the early 20th century, when the grandfather of today's owners inherited a farm of over 50 hectares, in what is now the municipality of Arzachena, in the extreme orth of Sardinia: an area already famed for its suitability for winegrowing. In those days the vineyards produced just enough wine for the family, who lived in the town of Arzachena but liked to spend Spring at the farm at Capichera.
In the Seventies, the father of today's owners planted new vineyards of Vermentino, the typical local grape variety, and built a modern winery for the production of high quality wines.
In 1980 the first wine was sold under the Capichera label, a Vermentino radically different from those already on the market: it was richer, more fragrant, smoother, and longer-lived than other, more important wines.
In the 1980s brothers Fabrizio and Mario began to work in the winery, and although very young, invested their energy in a difficult challenge: making Capichera a leader in top quality wine production.
Today Capichera is a young winery, with its own rich history of development in quantity, and above all quality, of experimentation, innovation and progressive improvement of the products and the production and management processes.
The original 10 hectares of vineyards have become 60 today and others are being planted; production is now around 300,000 bottles, and will increase by 80% over the next few years.
The vineyards belonging to the Capichera winery are of the highest quality possible in Sardinia; this land has been well-known for centuries for its agricultural potential, which has also been confirmed by laboratory analysis. The vines are the result of scrupulous selection in Capichera and in France, by selected nursery gardens working under the supervision of the winery's own experts. Capichera's Vermentino and Carignano vineyards are - and will remain - unparalleled in quality. Read more
