Description
What type of wine it is
Juvelo is a DOC passito wine produced by Andriano in South Tyrol, made exclusively from Gewürztraminer grapes. This dessert wine is born from a meticulous drying process enriched by the development of noble rot, which enhances its natural sweetness and aromatic depth. In the glass, it presents a bright appearance with golden and amber reflections, anticipating a full and enveloping palate where the distinct sugar component finds balance in a lively acidity. The intensely spicy bouquet highlights the character of a wine capable of a long evolution over time.
Where it comes from
The vineyards are located in the mountainous territory of South Tyrol, in the municipality of Eppan, at an altitude of approximately 530 metres. This environment favours slow ripening, which is essential for preserving the fruit's natural freshness. The stony, limestone soils, characterised by the presence of gravel and white dolomitic rock, give the flavour profile concentration and a pleasant mineral tension. The Andriano winery makes the most of these slopes through late harvesting, a technique aimed at maximising the aromatic complexity of the grape variety and ensuring optimal drying.
How it is produced
Processing begins in December with grapes dried by noble rot, which is essential for concentrating sugars and extractive substances. The process involves a three-hour maceration followed by soft pressing. Fermentation and subsequent ageing take place in barrels for a period of eleven months. The result is a passito of great depth, balanced by a distinct freshness. Intense notes of honey, vanilla, quince, and candied orange peel emerge on the nose, making it ideal for pairing with chocolate desserts, creamy risottos, or tender meats.
History and interesting facts
The Juvelo dessert wine originates from the passion and history of the Andriano winery, which has been cultivating vines with dedication since 1893. Among the most interesting features of this wine is the harvesting of the grapes, which takes place in December to allow for the development of noble rot. This practice, combined with cultivation at an altitude of 530 metres on soils rich in Dolomitic rock, ensures the wine has an extraordinary ageing potential, estimated at between 10 and 20 years.

Today the strengths of the two wine estates are combined and yet clearly distinct from each other. With its outstanding sites, Cantina Andriano stands for constancy, underpinned by the historic achievement of the Andriano winegrowers for wines like Lagrein, which was one of the first to be aged in barriques here.
On the basis of a consistent commitment to quality and a strong focus on terroir, which had already been a successful recipe in Terlano, Cantina Andriano continues to develop step by step. The winery now looks to the future from a position of strength and can be proud of its identity and standard of quality. They have their roots in unique limestone-rich soils, a climate that is quite different from that of Terlano, and grape varieties ideally suited to these parameters.
That forms the foundation for the distinctive Andriano taste and identity. Read more
