Baricci

The estate is located in the northern part of the Montalcino area, on the slope facing the city of Siena, at an altitude of 280 meters above sea level. It covers 12 hectares (5 of which planted with Brunello) on the Montosoli hill, considered for centuries an area of excellence—a true cru with outstanding winegrowing vocation.

The winery was founded in 1955, when the Baricci family, originally farmers, after many years of physical and financial sacrifice, managed to purchase the small farm known as Colombaio di Montosoli. At that time, Brunello was an unknown wine, produced in very small quantities and only by a handful of passionate growers. Years passed, and in 1967 Nello Baricci, together with a few other producers, founded the "Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino," a free association of winemakers created to protect, defend, and promote their wine, whose prestige was steadily rising.

The first Brunello Baricci released on the market dates back to 1971, while the first bottle of Rosso di Montalcino was produced in 1968. Today, Nello’s grandsons, Federico and Francesco, carry on the family name—long synonymous with tradition, passion, and integrity. Their work alongside their grandfather represents a "counter‑current" professional choice for their generation, as well as the continuation of an honest and dedicated way of making wine.

The cellar is equipped with stainless‑steel tanks and Slavonian oak casks. Vinification and aging strictly follow the traditional methods that made Brunello famous worldwide. The wine ages in large casks for at least 3 years and is then refined for an additional 8 months in the bottle before being released in various European countries, as well as in the USA and Japan. The average annual production is about 13,000 bottles of Brunello and 18,000 of Rosso di Montalcino. The Baricci estate is widely recognized as a quintessential, historic Montalcino winery—one of the so‑called "small producers" who have undoubtedly contributed to the greatness of Brunello di Montalcino.
