History Montenisa is situated in the heart of Franciacorta, around Borgo di Calino, near Lake Iseo. In 1158, the village was given by the bishop of Brescia to a noble local family.Towards the end of the 19th century Lavinia Calini, who married Gaetano Maggi, inherited the property which will always remain part of the noble Brescia family’s heritage. In 1999 the Marchesi Antinori and Conti Maggi families came to an agreement about the running of the land surrounding the villa, with the aim of producing a great Franciacorta from these noble vineyards.
Vinification In early spring, following alcoholic fermentation which took place partly in stainless steel vats and partly in barriques, the wine underwent a second fermentation in the bottles and subsequently remained in contact with the yeasts for at least 24 months. Remuage is still carried out by hand using the typical pupitres as tradition dictates, giving each individual bottle special attention. After degorgement the bottles were laid down for at least three months before release.
