The vine Carmenère originates from the ancient "Vitis Biturica" of Albanian origin and brought to France by the Romans. The name could originate from "carmine" because of the intense purple color of the wine that is derived from it. From this original vine comes all Bordeaux vineyards. |

Leaf: medium size, orbicular (narrower than in the Cabernet franc), pentagonal; Bulky flap at revolving margins; Petiolar breast U, sometimes overlapping edges; Deep lateral breasts (more than in the Cabernet Franc), the upper closed ones, the lower U open.
Bunch: medium size, cylindrical-conical, winged, spatula.
Acino: small, spheroidal; Very thick, thick, thick, blue-black skin; Special herbaceous flavor. |
