The Frescobaldi Chianti is produced on the Castiglioni estate, located on the rolling hills of the Val di Pesa and characterized by a mild climate and cool soils, and with a rich winemaking history behind it. Castiglioni has been owned by the Frescobaldi family since the 11th century and is the starting point of the family's winemaking history, whose sources date back to 1304 thanks to a document recording an exchange with Michelangelo Buonarroti of wine for works of art. Historically, one of the oldest wineries in Italy, it also benefits from the appreciation of its wines both nationally and internationally, especially from historic exports to the papal and English courts. Today the estate has a dual vocation: on the one hand, maintaining the winemaking history that distinguishes it with the cultivation of native vines such as Sangiovese, on the other, it exalts itself as a symbol of avant-garde in wine production thanks to the morphological characteristics of the territory, suitable for giving life to more modern wines but always of great structure.

The morphological characteristics of the soil, rich in clay and with notable water retention, allow the grapes to ripen in a balanced way and to reflect softness and a strong, well-defined character in wines such as Frescobaldi Chianti Castiglioni. With a predominance of Sangiovese and a small quantity of Merlot it is fermented in stainless steel and subsequently aged for 6 months in vats and one month in the bottle before being released for sale.

Fruity notes of small red berries such as blackberry, currant, raspberry and strawberry prevail on the nose. In the mouth it is warm and soft, with nice acidity and excellent balance.

Intense ruby red with purple hues on the rim.

The tannins are fine and well blended in the structure and the finish is long and harmonious with a decidedly fruity aftertaste.

Property of the family since the 11th century, Castiglioni is the point of origin of wine production for the Frescobaldis. Documentation indicates that wines were being produced here as early as 1300. The estate extends along the ancient Via di Castiglioni, built by the Romans to unify northern Tuscany and Rome.

The area was already famous in those times for the quality of its agricultural harvests and was for centuries at the center of heavy trade traffic and chosen as the site for luxury Roman villas. The coat of arms of the Frescobaldi family, with the crown, the shield and three fortresses, represents Castiglioni as well, in remembrance and recognition of the 700 years of wine-making history which began here at this very estate. 阅读更多
