Concha y Toro Casillero del Diablo Carmenere Reserva 2020

This variety disappeared from its place of origin - Médoc, North of Bordeaux - after the attack of the Phylloxera pest, appearing again in Chile at the end of the 20th Century. Casillero del Diablo developed all its mildness and finesse.

Colour

Intense and deep purple red colour.

Bouquet

Very expressive fruit with outstanding mature berries, forest fruit joined with delicate hints of coffee and toast coming from the barrels.

Flavour

From the start, it’s a remarkable expression of Carmenere thanks to the typical fruit like plums, blackberries and some spicy touches. The tannins are polished and long with a medium body at the end.

Pairing

It expresses marvellously with game meat, garnished with sweet-and-sour sauces and berries or with aged cheese.

I always use Xtrawine and the service is always good There appears to have been a change this time around with the wine sent direct from Italy. Previously orders on the .co.uk site came from London so arrived much quicker. This means delivery takes a bit longer although the packaging was much better than before. Overall, a great selection of Italian wines from an excellent seller.
