The phylloxera crisis of the late nineteenth century and the 14-18 war have often led to the abandonment of vine cultivation, seeing the disappearance of some small wineries in the Medoc.
Only in the '50s thanks to the Kopp family, father, daughter and son, this property has been reborn. With much patience, the vineyards were gradually restored and put back into production.
Today the castle Retout has 34 hectares of vineyards, including 32 hectares of AOC Haut-Médoc and 2 hectares of white varieties.
The vineyard is mostly situated on a ridge. In its center, on the highest point at 17 meters, you can still admire the old mill dating from the thirteenth century.
