History |
The local name, Morellino, dates back to the Middle Ages. The etymology of the name can be explained both by morello, like the horses that pulled the carriages, and by moro, the dark colour that characterises the grape, like Brunello for the brown colour of the sangiovese in the DOCG. What makes this Sangiovese di Scansano unique is the fact that it has been uncontaminated by other vines for over 150 years. The only foreign insertion can be considered the inclusion of Alicante in the 1700s. |
Pairing |
To be drunk with the tasty dishes of the Maremma cuisine, such as all those based on wild boar and game. Excellent also with a seasoned Pecorino Toscano DOP. |
