The Karthäuserhof Estate is situated in the Ruwer valley, near to the confluence with the river Mosel, close to the village of Eitelsbach. Recent findings show that settlements here go back to Roman times and so probably does the viticulture. The ‘Karthäuser’ name originates from the order of Bruno of Cologne who founded the Chartreuse near Grenoble in the 11th century and expanded into Europe thereafter. The heraldic animal sitting in the middle of the coat of arms is a meerkat.
In 1986 Christoph Tyrell took over the Karthäuserhof Estate, and became the 6th generation of his family to do so.
At home and abroad, this estate is recognised as one of the most reputable and successful German wine makers.
With our great wine making tradition we have won many loyal customers and numerous awards and it is our ambition to pass this on to coming generations.
