The Jacques Busin family has been perpetuating for four generations the “Champenois” know-how with the most respect to the ancestral traditions. We have been owners of vineyards since the 17th century and it is only in 1902 that we start to elaborate our own Champagnes.
The Jacques Busin family welcome you in Verzenay, a “Grand Cru” village. Only 17 of the 319 villages in Champagne currently enjoy “Grand Cru” status. Wines from these vineyards are reserved for the finest “cuvées“. All Jacques Busin “cuvées” can assert this noble origin, a rare fact in Champagne!
The majority of our vineyards is located in the Montagne de Reims in Verzenay, Verzy, Sillery and Ambonnay. Those four prestigious villages are “Grand Cru 100” thanks to the exceptional quality of their “terroir”. The chalk subsoil that regulates soil temperature and humidity as well as ideal hillside inclination offering full exposure to the sun, allow each grape variety to fully ripe : the Pinot Noir brings structure to the blend and Chardonnay brings finesse. We use the most care in cultivating our vineyards. Therefore, each plot is carefully monitored using sustainable methods, good for the soil and the environment.
After handpicking our grapes, the juice from different plots are separately vinified in little vats. We keep the most promising ones to obtain an exceptional range of wines. This is key to the elaboration of Champagnes of quality. The reserve wines have an essential role to play guaranteeing the constancy of the house taste. They are selected from the best wines of past crops.
There’s no recipe or formula because no crop is like another. If you find this house taste to be the same every year, it is thanks to the memory of taste transmitted from father to son. Our different cuvées age with serenity in the freshness of our cellars. It’s a matter of patience to come to a perfect balance. At this stage, effervescence and flavors will arise to a harmonious wine.
