Story Pian delle Vigne Estate, located 6 km. south-west of Montalcino, takes its name from a characteristic 19th century railway station on its land. The estate is made up of 184 hectares, 65 of which are vineyards mainly exposed to the South-West at an altitude of about 130 meters above sea level. The winery has always pursued a philosophy oriented towards the large barrel, capable of preserving the extraordinary integrity of the Sangiovese fruit and giving Brunello its characteristic vibrant elegance. It has been owned by the Antinori family since 1995, the year of the first harvest of Pian delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino DOCG.
Origin Montalcino (Siena).
Climate Altitude: about 130 m. a.s.l. The 2015 will be remembered as a great vintage in Montalcino. The Winter and Spring rainfall, capable of ensuring the accumulation of good water reserves in the soil, alternated with sunny and windy days that allowed the bunches to grow quickly and evenly in May and June. A generally hot Summer tended to favour the regular development of the grapes. The tramontana wind and the temperate climate of September made it possible to finish ripening in an optimal manner.
Harvest It started on September 21 and ended on October 7.
Fermentation temperature 82 °Fahrenheit (28 °C).
Fermentation 15 days.
Wine making Upon arrival in the cellar the grapes were destemmed and softly crushed and then transferred to stainless steel tanks where alcoholic fermentation took place. Maceration took about 15 days at a temperature of 28 °C.
Aging After malolactic fermentation the wine was transferred to oak barrels of between 30 and 80 hl where it began its maturation in wood. After more than 2 years the Pian delle Vigne left the large cask and went on to a long aging in the bottle.
