Description

What kind of wine it is

Parusso Barbera d’Alba Ornati is a still red wine from Piedmont, an authentic expression of the Barbera grape variety. It displays an intense purple-red colour with garnet highlights. On the palate, it is full and vigorous, characterised by clear notes of blackberry, raspberry and black cherry, enhanced by subtle hints of vanilla. The sip is rich and balanced between freshness and savouriness, with velvety tannins leading to a persistent finish. It pairs perfectly with roasts, game and mature cheeses.

Where it comes from

This wine originates in Monforte d’Alba, within the renowned Barbera d’Alba area. The vineyards are situated at 370 metres above sea level, with a southern exposure that ensures ideal ripening of the grapes. The soil, composed of marl sandstone, imparts structure and a vibrant acidic streak. Parusso’s production philosophy follows the principles of biodynamic viticulture, aiming to enhance the deep connection between the grape variety and its native terroir.

How it is produced

Production begins with a careful manual harvest to preserve the integrity of the fruit. After gentle pressing, the must remains in prolonged contact with the skins to extract colour and phenolic compounds. Spontaneous fermentation is carried out exclusively by indigenous yeasts. This is followed by a maturation period of at least four months in small oak barrels on its own lees, a fundamental step to give the wine elegance and a complex aromatic structure.

History and Curiosities

Born in Monforte d’Alba from the passion of the Parusso family, Barbera d’Alba Ornati expresses the true vocation of Piedmont. Under the guidance of oenologist Marco Parusso and through rigorous biodynamic viticulture at an altitude of 370 metres, the vines grow on soils composed of marl sandstone. Excellence continues in the cellar with spontaneous fermentation started by indigenous yeasts and careful ageing in small oak barrels. Awarded 95 points by James Suckling, the 2023 vintage offers a taste of absolute artisanal quality.
