Description
What type of wine it is
Oddero’s Monlià Derthona is a still white wine from Piedmont with a Controlled Designation of Origin, produced from Timorasso grapes—an authentic expression of the Tortona Hills. This wine reveals a complex olfactory profile, in which elegant floral and citrus aromas intertwine, enriched by notes of ripe fruit, aromatic herbs and a delicate hint of hazelnut. On the palate, the sip is enveloping and supported by a solid structure, standing out for its harmonious balance between freshness and savouriness. The deep mineral footprint underlines its precise and decisive character, enhanced by fermentation in steel and partial ageing in oak barrels.
Where it comes from
The grapes for this label come from a single east-facing vineyard, located in the municipality of Monleale, in the province of Alessandria. The vines are cultivated using the Guyot trellis system, reflecting the pedoclimatic essence of the Tortona Hills. The project was born from a collaboration between the Oddero family and the owners of an estate in La Morra, with the aim of enhancing the territorial identity and the potential of the grape variety in the renowned Derthona area.
How it is produced
Production begins with a rigorous manual selection of the bunches. Vinification involves spontaneous fermentation conducted by indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled steel tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation. Ageing lasts for approximately one year, split between large Austrian oak barrels and steel containers; the two components are then combined in a blend that completes the journey with four months of bottle ageing.
History and curiosities
The result of the Oddero family's centuries of experience, the Monlià project was born from the union of four friends and a renowned estate in La Morra. This synergy showcases the Colli Tortonesi region through the use of 100% Timorasso grapes, grown in a prized 1.45-hectare vineyard with an eastern exposure in the municipality of Monleale. Under the careful guidance of Mariacristina Oddero and Luca Veglio, this white wine of rare elegance expresses authentic Piedmontese tradition, translating the deep potential of the grape variety into a sip with an unmistakable character.

The history of today’s winery is inextricably tied to that of Giacomo Oddero, born in 1926 and grandson of the first Giacomo in the family (whom he was named after). Under Giacomo’s guidance, Poderi e Cantine Oddero took on its current productive configuration, extending vineyard property, increasing bottle production, and upholding a high quality that today is recognized worldwide.
The legacy of Giacomo Oddero is carried on today by his daughter Mariacristina, who entered the family business near the end of the 1990s, and grandchildren Isabella and Pietro, who represent the seventh generation of a family with over a century and a half of vinicultural tradition behind them.
