Description

What kind of wine it is

Arenis Gewürztraminer is an aromatic white wine crafted by Kurtatsch, an authentic expression of the South Tyrol region. Made exclusively from Gewürztraminer grapes, it offers a dry profile, full-bodied and well-structured. On the palate, it stands out for its pronounced mineral note that balances the enveloping body with persistent freshness, while its floral character provides a complex and elegant tasting experience.

Where it comes from

The grapes are grown in Cortaccia, South Tyrol, in east-facing hillside vineyards situated between 300 and 400 metres above sea level. The mountain viticulture develops on silty-sandy soils rich in clay and red sandstone, the rock from which the name Arenis is derived. This particular soil composition imparts a constant gustatory tension to the wine, enhancing a grape variety native to nearby Termeno and historically renowned.

How it is produced

The winemaking process involves a cold maceration followed by controlled temperature fermentation in stainless steel, essential steps to preserve the aromatic clarity of Gewürztraminer. The period of ageing on fine lees enriches its structure, giving the palate an almost oily texture. On the nose, the bouquet reveals notes of rose, lychee, jasmine and exotic spices, finishing with a long, clean and vibrant aftertaste.

History and Curiosities

Originating from Termeno, the renowned Gewürztraminer has deep roots in the history of South Tyrol. The name Arenis is a tribute to the red sandstone, the rock that gives a unique hue to the silty-sandy soils of the vineyards in Cortaccia. This wine embodies the passion of 190 families dedicated to mountain viticulture. Awarded 93 points by James Suckling, the 2024 vintage combines elegance and quality. A captivating expression of the region, it evolves in the bottle for 3-5 years.
