Description

What kind of wine is it

Sancerre Les Herses is a still white wine produced by Gitton Pere & Fils in the renowned Loire Valley. Made from Sauvignon grapes, it stands out for its fresh and elegant style and its bright straw yellow colour. On the nose, it reveals a clear aromatic profile, characterised by lively citrus notes. The palate is pleasantly smooth and distinctly savoury, offering a clear and well-defined structure.

Where does it come from

This Sancerre originates in the village of Ménétréol-sous-Sancerre, an area renowned for the cultivation of Sauvignon. The vineyards benefit from an eastern exposure and an altitude between 205 and 225 metres above sea level, ideal conditions for the development of aromatic precursors. The limestone and flint soils sharply define the structure and typical savouriness of the palate. The family-run estate, founded in 1945 by Marcel and Huguette Gitton, carefully oversees every stage of production, ensuring exclusive on-site ageing.

How is it produced

The production process begins with a rigorous manual harvest, aimed at carefully selecting the best bunches. Vinification continues with fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, a method chosen to preserve maximum aromatic purity. Subsequently, the wine rests in steel containers for about nine or ten months, with no ageing in wood. This precise production technique allows the elegant fruity nuances to remain intact, while also ensuring excellent ageing potential.

History and Curiosities

Born from the dedication of Marcel and Huguette Gitton, founders of the estate in 1945, this elegant Sancerre AOC expresses the authentic essence of Sauvignon. Located in the village of Ménétréol-sous-Sancerre, the east-facing vines grow at an altitude of 205-225 metres on limestone and flint soils, which give the wine its unmistakable character. The meticulous manual harvest and prolonged ageing in steel enhance its fresh citrus notes, offering a soft, balanced and distinctly savoury sip that celebrates the Loire's historic winemaking tradition.
