Description

What kind of wine it is

Terlano Chardonnay Kreuth is a still white wine from Cantina Terlano that precisely expresses the character of the Alto Adige Terlano area. In the glass, Chardonnay displays a bright straw yellow colour. The bouquet is intense, with hints of exotic fruit such as apricot, passion fruit and carambola, combined with citrus notes. Enhancing the aromatic profile is a spicy minerality of flint, together with a slight woody nuance. On the palate, it offers a soft and creamy structure, supported by a full and harmonious body, with well-integrated acidity and a juicy, savoury and persistent finish.

Where it comes from

This wine originates from the vineyards of Terlano, in the province of Bolzano, in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. The vines thrive between two hundred and sixty and three hundred and fifty metres above sea level, with a favourable exposure to the south and south-west. This orientation ensures consistent ripening, enhancing the clarity of the fruit. The soil, with its sandy and stony composition, is permeable and has a profound impact on the development of the pronounced mineral texture and the compactness of the flavour. The care of these vineyards reflects Cantina Terlano's meticulous approach to enhancing the Terlaner terroir.

How it is produced

The production process begins with the harvesting and manual selection of the Chardonnay grapes. This is followed by gentle whole-bunch pressing and the clarification of the must by natural sedimentation. The slow fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in large oak barrels. Subsequently, the wine undergoes partial malolactic fermentation. The cycle concludes with ageing on the lees for about eight to ten months, carried out half in stainless steel tanks and half in large wooden barrels. This precise process allows for the perfect integration of the wine's lively freshness and flavour architecture.

History and Curiosities

The Terlan Chardonnay Kreuth represents a true symbol of excellence from Cantina Terlano, a historic cooperative founded in 1893 and dedicated to the production of high-quality wines in Alto Adige. The 2024 vintage honours tradition through meticulous hand harvesting and a slow fermentation in large 30 hl oak barrels. Thanks to partial malolactic fermentation and ten months of ageing on the lees, spent between stainless steel and wood, the wine expresses perfect balance and an exceptional ageing potential estimated between 5 and 10 years.

The vibrant minerality of this South Tyrolean Chardonnay masterfully enhances classics such as vitello tonnato and marinated octopus. Thanks to its enveloping and creamy structure, the wine pairs with rare elegance with delicate vegetarian dishes or gratinated crêpes. To make the most of its unmistakably savoury finish, we recommend tasting it at a temperature of 12-14 °C.
