Description

What type of wine it is

The Barbera d’Alba Superiore Rocche delle Rocche from Rocche Costamagna is a full-bodied Piedmontese red wine, made from Barbera grapes and aged in French oak barrels. In the glass, it presents an intense ruby red colour with purple nuances, anticipating a complex aromatic profile of cherry, black cherry and blackberry, enhanced by hints of cocoa, rosewood and spices. On the palate, it reveals a silky texture, enlivened by a vibrant freshness and a savouriness that accompanies sweet, smooth tannins. The structured sip leads to a very persistent finish with elegant notes of almond, confirming a clear potential for long evolution.

Where it comes from

This Barbera d’Alba Superiore comes from the vineyards of Verduno, located in the renowned Neirane area. Rocche Costamagna’s vines grow on calcareous-clay soils with sandy inserts, a geological combination that gives the wine a precise acidity and a defined tannic structure. The choice to work with low yields ensures a high aromatic concentration in the clusters, allowing the nuances of the production area and the authentic identity of the winery to be expressed faithfully, while keeping the fullness and vigour of the palate intact.

How it is produced

After the harvest at the end of September, the production process begins with maceration on the skins for about a week at a controlled temperature, ideal for extracting colour and polyphenolic components. The wine then matures in French oak barrels for twelve months, a period during which it refines its structure and integrates the spicy notes with the richness of the ripe fruit. Ageing continues in the bottle to reach the perfect balance of flavour.

History and heritage

Founded in La Morra in 1841, the Rocche Costamagna winery passes down the expertise of six generations, giving life to Rocche delle Rocche. This exquisite Barbera d’Alba Superiore originates from the Neirane vineyard in Verduno and is produced exclusively in the finest vintages. Under the leadership of Alessandro Locatelli, the estate combines long-standing family tradition with rigorous sustainable viticulture.

Tradition, dynamism and sustainability are the values of Rocche Costamagna: set in the heart of La Morra, the most important municipality in the Barolo designation in terms of wine production and number of winegrowers, this is one of the most historic wineries in the area.

A tradition of dedication to vines and wine, a family history with six generations of winemakers who have aimed to raise the quality of their work and their labels over time, enhancing the exceptional terroir of La Morra and making the most of the fruits of the prestigious "Rocche dell'Annunziata" Barolo cru, cultivated by the same family for over two centuries."Tradition, dynamism and sustainability simultaneously represent the values and development aims of Rocche Costamagna: our wines are the expression of a story of love for and dedication to the land of the Langa which spans six generations and more than two centuries" explains Alessandro Locatelli, who runs the winery today.

The cellars, which date back to the Napoleonic era, have been restored to their original splendor and now house elegant guest accommodation, where the Barolo experience meets traditional Langhe hospitality for tours, tastings and holidays filled with charm.
