Description

What kind of wine it is

Barbaresco Montestefano Riserva is a still red wine that masterfully interprets the character of Nebbiolo. In the glass, it displays a ruby red hue with violet reflections. The bouquet is characterised by notes of undergrowth and ripe cherry, enhanced by spicy nuances and a clear smoky hint. On the palate, it reveals great body and a dense tannic structure, with intense dark fruit aromas leading the sip towards a powerful and persistent finish.

Where it comes from

This wine originates from the Barbaresco area, from the prestigious Montestefano vineyard situated at 270 metres above sea level. The southern exposure and the clay and limestone nature of the soils favour the ideal ripening of the grapes, imparting rigour and structure. Production is entrusted to Produttori del Barbaresco, a historic organisation that brings together over fifty families dedicated to enhancing this renowned terroir through meticulous vineyard care.

How it is produced

The production process involves a traditional maceration on the skins lasting 24 days at a controlled temperature. The wine then matures for 36 months in oak barrels, followed by a further six months of bottle ageing. Thanks to this careful process, it develops an ageing potential of up to fifteen years. It is recommended to decant it for about an hour before serving, making it the ideal companion for fresh egg pasta, red meat dishes, game and mature cheeses.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 1958, the iconic Produttori del Barbaresco cooperative brings together over fifty families in the name of the pure expression of Nebbiolo. From this synergy comes the renowned Barbaresco Montestefano Riserva 2021, an outstanding wine awarded 97 points by Vinous. The grapes, grown at an altitude of 270 metres with a southern exposure, give the wine a full and vigorous body. Thanks to traditional maceration and skilful ageing for 36 months in oak, the riserva develops a fascinating aromatic complexity, ideal for long ageing.
