Description
What kind of wine it is
Montevertine is a still red wine produced by the winery of the same name, made from a blend of Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino grapes. It stands out for its compact and bright ruby red colour. On the nose, clear notes of blackberries and raspberries emerge, combined with hints of dried violets, pipe tobacco, rhubarb and delicate balsamic touches. On the palate, it reveals a solid structure, supported by a pleasant freshness and smooth, well-integrated tannins, which lead the sip towards a persistent, floral and spicy finish.
Where it comes from
This red originates from the hills of Radda in Chianti, a Sienese area that unmistakably defines the character of the production. The Montevertine vineyards, cultivated according to strict organic principles, are located at an altitude of 425 metres, a position that favours optimal ripening and ensures lively acidity. The connection with Tuscany enhances the peculiarities of the soil, allowing the native grape varieties to express themselves elegantly in a sip with a strong territorial identity.
How it is produced
Vinification begins with a fermentation in cement vats lasting about twenty-one days, containers where the malolactic phase also takes place. Ageing involves a rest of twenty-four months in Slavonian oak barrels, followed by a final period of maturation before release. This process does not involve any filtration, preserving the aromatic integrity of the wine. At the table, it pairs harmoniously with grilled meats and game, flavoursome cheeses and structured first courses.
History and Curiosities
Born in Radda in Chianti in 1971, this iconic Toscana IGT embodies the most authentic essence of the local winemaking tradition. After separating from the Chianti Classico Consortium in 1982, the wine took on the name of the estate, showcasing grapes partly sourced from historic vineyards planted in that very year. Under the guidance of Martino Manetti, this refined blend, predominantly Sangiovese, expresses itself with unparalleled elegance. Awarded the Tre Bicchieri, the 2022 vintage confirms itself as a true Tuscan symbol of absolute excellence.

Montevertine was purchased in 1967, Sergio Manetti, then the steel industry, as a holiday home. He restored the house to make it habitable and just planted two acres of vineyard and set up a small store with the idea of producing a 'wine for his friends and customers.
The first year of production, 1971, was more discreet and Sergio Manetti decided some bottles at Vinitaly via the Chamber of Commerce of Siena. It was an immediate success and so enthusiastic about Mr. Manetti that after a few years he abandoned his core business to focus solely on wine. New vineyards were planted, new wineries, and this without any interruption, with a development company that still lasts.
The farm, after the death of Sergio Manetti in November of 2000, is now run by his son Martino Manetti collaboration with Bruno Bini, born in Montevertine and deep knowledge of the area and land. Giulio Gambelli, expert wine taster, offers his advice and assistance in the preparation of wines.
