Description
What type of wine it is
Marisa Cuomo's Costa d’Amalfi Furore Rosso Riserva is a still red wine born from a blend of Aglianico and Piedirosso. It presents in the glass with an intense ruby red colour, offering an aromatic profile on the nose that recalls blackberry, blueberry, plum and sour cherry, enriched by hints of rosemary and smoky notes. On the palate, it is full-bodied and smooth, supported by an excellent structural balance that leads towards a persistent finish characterised by hints of undergrowth and spices. This expression of the Amalfi Coast possesses a natural propensity for evolution, proving ideal for accompanying structured meat dishes, game and matured cheeses.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from Campania, cultivated along the steep slopes of Furore through the practice of heroic viticulture. The vineyards are situated between two hundred and five hundred and fifty metres above sea level, enjoying full southern exposure and the constant mitigating influence of the sea, factors that favour a distinct aromatic concentration. The soil, composed mainly of dolomitic-limestone rocks, imparts a clear mineral character to the sip. Deliberately limited yields guarantee a dense raw material, subsequently processed in a striking cellar carved into the rock, a symbol of the deep bond with the territory.
How it is produced
The production process begins in the last ten days of October with a manual harvest, aimed at selecting only the clusters that have reached full ripeness, which are then subjected to destemming and crushing. Vinification continues with maceration on the skins for thirty days, necessary to extract the colour and define the wine's architecture, followed by malolactic fermentation. Ageing takes place for twelve months in new French oak barrels, a step that smooths the tannins and amplifies the complexity of flavour. It is recommended to serve the wine after one hour of oxygenation at a temperature of eighteen to twenty degrees to fully appreciate its potential.
History and interesting facts
Founded in 1983, the Marisa Cuomo winery embodies the most authentic heroic viticulture of the Amalfi Coast. This red wine originates from vineyards tenaciously clinging to the dolomitic-limestone rocks of Furore, at an altitude between 200 and 550 metres. Caressed by the sun and the sea, the ten-hectare estate managed by Andrea Ferraioli ensures a limited yield of sixty quintals per hectare, capturing the purest soul of the terroir. Processing takes place in the iconic cellar carved into the rock.
