Description
Ferghettina Franciacorta Brut is the product of a region highly suited to the production of sparkling wines. Franciacorta is renowned for its extraordinary climatic conditions that favor vine cultivation. For centuries, wine has been produced here with excellent quality, bordering on excellence. Franciacorta is a wine-growing region wedged between the southern end of Lake Iseo and the province of Brescia. The ideal microclimate is due to the mitigating effect of the lake, which favors adequate temperature ranges between day and night. The soils have a mixed composition of clay and limestone. The presence of the latter favors the production of grapes that then yield a product characterized by high minerality and flavorfulness. Ferghettina Franciacorta Brut from the eponymous winery is born in this unique setting. The blend is composed of 95% Chardonnay and 5% Pinot Noir grapes. The harvest begins around mid-August with handpicking of the grapes into crates to avoid premature cracking. During the soft pressing, great care is taken to separate the free-run must from the second-pressing must. The free-run must will be used to produce Ferghettina Franciacorta Brut. The alcoholic fermentation of the musts from the two batches of grapes will take place separately until spring. At this time, after a series of tastings, the cuvée will be formed. The stay on the lees will last approximately 30 months, at the end of which the disgorging and the dosing of sugars will take place to obtain the Brut typology.

He worked there for more than 20 years, mastering the viticulture of Franciacorta and the most modern winemaking techniques. In 1991, he and his wife Andreina took over the management of four hectares of land and a real estate located in Erbusco, where they soon created a wine cellar. After the harvest of 1991, Roberto presented his first two wines: a Terre di Franciacorta red wine and a white one.
Ferghettina was born, taking down the name of the area where the winery was built. The following year Roberto produced his first Franciacorta, a brut that’s still the strongest suit of the winery. Since then, Ferghettina has expanded significantly. As Roberto was held in high esteem in Franciacorta, he rented many plots of land to plant vines according to high-quality standards of viticulture.
Nowadays, we run 200 hectars of vineyards located in 11 municipalities of Franciacorta, conforming to organic farming principles, in order to exploit the resources of the different soils as fully as possible, to enhance the quality of our wines. Ferghettina is a family matter: everything is managed by Roberto and Andreina, with the help of their children Laura and Matteo, both graduated in oenology, and of a large number of employees and partners.
