Description

What kind of wine it is

Chassagne-Montrachet Blanc from Domaine Blain-Gagnard is a still white wine from Burgundy, displaying an antique golden yellow colour, brightened by green highlights. Made from Chardonnay grapes, it offers intense fruity aromas on the nose, with ripe yellow fruit standing out, accompanied by a powerful mineral note. On the palate, it is opulent and very rich, offering an almost creamy texture that envelops each sip. The lively freshness and crisp flavours of apple and citrus, enriched by unexpected hints of red fruit, create a balanced structure that leads to a long and harmonious finish.

Where it comes from

This label originates from Chassagne-Montrachet, a prestigious area located within the Côte-d’Or, in the heart of Burgundy. The white wines from this specific region share similarities with those from nearby Puligny due to their acidic tension, but are distinguished by a generally softer and broader flavour profile. Domaine Blain-Gagnard has been enhancing this characteristic of the soil since 1980, translating the geological features into an authentic expression of the terroir. The vines benefit from an ideal environment that gives the grapes a deep aromatic profile, capable of evolving and refining elegantly in the bottle over the years.

How it is produced

Vinification is carried out with precision under the guidance of Jean-Marc Blain, who oversees every stage of the process to enhance the potential of the raw material. To fully appreciate the complexity of its rich texture, it is recommended to decant for about an hour. Thanks to its sensory profile, this white is an ideal accompaniment for grilled fish, shellfish and poultry. Its creamy texture also pairs perfectly with refined vegetarian dishes, cheese selections and structured dishes featuring butter-based sauces, cream or toasted nuts.

History and Curiosities

Founded in Burgundy in 1980, Domaine Blain-Gagnard produces this distinguished Chassagne-Montrachet AOC 2024 under the expert guidance of Jean-Marc Blain. Made exclusively from Chardonnay in the renowned Côte-d’Or, the wine shares the lively acidity of neighbouring Puligny, yet stands out for its more opulent and creamy profile. The palate combines vibrant mineral freshness with clear notes of apple and citrus, along with subtle hints of red fruits. A harmonious golden expression that promises a magnificent evolution in the bottle over five to ten years.

Domaine Blain-Gagnard was formed in 1980 when Jean-Marc Blain (a Sancerrois) married Claudine Gagnard, youngest daughter of Jacques and Marie-Josèphe Gagnard of Domaine Gagnard-Delagrange. The couple runs this venerable domaine with the help of their son Marc-Antonin. Jean-Marc Blain and Claudine Gagnard met while they were both studying oenology at Dijon. The estate's vineyards come mainly from grandparents and other relatives of Claudine, along with a few purchases. The vines are planted in Chardonnay (55%) and the rest in Pinot Noir, with a small parcel of Passetoutgrain. Read more
