Description

From the Nebbiolo vines in the municipality of Novello in the Langhe of Piedmont, an intense red wine is born. It is the Cogno Barolo Ravera, born from Elvio Cogno's enormous passion for winemaking, a passion that began within the family, who produced a small amount of wine for the restaurant they owned. Around the 1950s, realizing that catering wasn't what he really wanted to do with his life, Cogno decided to indulge his interest in wine and make it a real profession, first through an affiliation with Mercarini, producing and marketing Barolo, and in the 1990s he founded his own company, making the new wine, Barolo Ravera, the flagship product that would make him one of the most prestigious Italian winemakers. The production process of Cogno Barolo Ravera begins with the calcareous soil of the Langhe and continues with a profound respect for tradition and the most natural winemaking possible, without any particular technologies or invasive methods. The vineyard is cultivated without alterations, and the bunches are carefully selected during the harvest, allowing only the finest to reach the cellar. The harvest is followed by pressing, a rather lengthy fermentation in stainless steel, a submerged-hair maceration for a month, and a period of aging in wooden barrels for approximately 24 months. The final stage of aging takes place in the bottle for at least 6 months. The result is an excellent wine, a symbol of the territory and its ancient winemaking tradition, as well as the commitment of a competent and dedicated grower.

The Cogno Winery was formed in the footsteps of master wine maker Elvio and continues to produce wines that respect the history of the family today. They maintain, unaltered, traditions and styles that express the flavor and grape varieties of the Langhe.

The Cogno Winery produces the principle wines of the Langhe. The winery owns about fifteen hectares of vineyard property in Novello, one of eleven townships in the province of Cuneo in which Barolo DOCG production is allowed.
The hills are world-renowned for their history, culture, and beauty, and they were recently recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage.

In the footsteps of its founder Elvio Cogno, today Nadia Cogno and Valter Fissore direct the winery with four generations of winemakers and vine growers, dedicated to obtaining excellence that begins with the unique terroir to create wines that are famous throughout the world for their elegance, texture, and balance.
