Description
What kind of wine it is
Heurtebise by Chartogne-Taillet is an Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne made entirely from Chardonnay. This wine stands out for its golden yellow colour and reveals a structured aromatic profile, characterised by distinct pastry notes that blend harmoniously with hints of honey, spices, and candied fruit. On the palate, it is exquisitely dry and assertive, offering a deep and remarkably complex sip, typical of the Traditional Method. The overall impression is of a wine with a strong character, providing a dry and enveloping tasting experience.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from Merfy, a village located within the Champagne region. The vines grow in plots with southern exposure, rooted in sandy-limestone soils that impart a precise mineral identity to the grapes. The vineyards include parcels planted at different times, maintaining an average age that helps ensure the fullest expression of the harvest. It is this particular soil composition that shapes the authentic character of the Chardonnay, resulting in a vibrant glass with a strong personality closely linked to its territorial imprint.
How it is produced
The process begins with a long and gentle pressing, carefully calibrating the contact of the must with oxygen. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks using indigenous yeasts, followed by a naturally conducted malolactic fermentation. The wine then matures in barrels, a crucial stage that enriches the flavour profile before the secondary fermentation according to the principles of the Traditional Method. The entire process is marked by the complete absence of filtration, a technical choice aimed at preserving the wine's full organoleptic heritage, supported by a restrained dosage.

The family's wine-making tradition traces back to 1490, with Nicolas Taillet and Fiacre Taillet in 1540. In 1700, a second Fiacre Taillet, a learned winegrower, wrote his memoirs recounting his life and all the important events in the village, his family and his profession. The Chartogne-Taillet family continues this tradition and savoir-faire inherited from this winegrowing heritage. Read more
