Description
Chianti Classico di Castellina is a wine that is the protagonist of the oldest Tuscan winemaking tradition. Over an area of over 70,000 hectares, surrounded by the Chianti mountain range, local grapes have grown since the times of the Etruscans and Romans. Here, in the most central part of the region, on a complex hilly area characterized by calcareous and sandy soil, ancient winemaking techniques based on the choice of soil, training systems, and winemaking practices gave rise to the so-called "Lega del Chianti as early as 1200. In this part of Tuscany, the particularly bright environment characterized by strong temperature variations allows for excellent ripening of the grapes, giving them the specific organoleptic characteristics that have made this wine famous throughout the world. The production of Chianti Classico di Castellina follows the strict rules that govern the production of Chianti Classico in Tuscany. These rules require the cultivation of vineyards at altitudes no higher than 700 meters, protecting this wine with the D.O.C.G. (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita). In these vineyards protected by the brand, Chianti Classico Castellare di Castellina is produced following ancient vine training practices such as the upside-down Guyot. The result is a still red wine D.O.C.G. which embodies the entire tradition of native Tuscan wine with a composition characterized by Sangiovese and Canaiolo Nero grapes. Fermentation takes place in steel and the wine is aged in oak barrels for 7 months. Here, in the barriques, thanks to the tannins of the wood, the wine is further enriched in both body and structure, taking on those characteristics that have made it a highly regarded Italian wine even abroad.
