Description
What kind of spirit is this?
Ron Anejo by Carupano is a Venezuelan Rum with a protected designation, made from pure cane molasses. Distilled in pot and column stills, it matures in white American oak for a smooth, structured profile. It displays an amber colour with golden highlights, while the nose reveals candied fruit, honey, almond, and toasted oak. The palate offers a velvety texture of vanilla and caramel, ending in a finish of figs, dark chocolate, and a gentle smoky note.
Geographical origin
This spirit originates from the Macarapana Valley in Venezuela, produced at the historic Hacienda Altamira. The region features low altitude, high humidity, and a tropical climate moderated by Caribbean Sea breezes. These conditions accelerate the rum’s interaction with the wood, concentrating aromas. Production relies on pure local spring water, reflecting the regional terroir and rigorous Venezuelan distillation standards.
Production method
Production begins with sugarcane molasses, distilled through pot and column stills to build complexity. The spirit matures for up to 18 years in American oak barrels, acquiring a rounded mouthfeel and controlled sweetness. After blending, it is finished for several weeks in white American oak to integrate the distillate and wood. This method yields a refined spirit with persistent spice and oak, ensuring a balanced sensory experience.
