| Story | Pinot Noir has a tradition in Oltrepò Pavese that goes back more than 150 years. It was Count Augusto Giorgi di Vistarino who was the first to import pinot noir rootstock from France around 1860. Today, with its 3,000 hectares of pinot noir, Oltrepò Pavese is the leading Italian producer of this noble grape variety. In Oltrepò Pavese, both clones suitable for white and red vinification are cultivated. The upper Versa Valley has the optimal pedoclimatic characteristics for growing pinot noir for sparkling wine bases, with altitudes of up to 550 m above sea level. |
