Description
What type of wine it is
The Langhe Nebbiolo by Ugo Lequio is a still red wine from Piedmont with a Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) that expresses the authentic soul of the Nebbiolo grape variety, fermented in steel and aged in French oak barrels. In the glass, it presents a ruby colour with garnet hues, which introduces a persistent aromatic profile characterised by clear hints of forest fruits. The tasting reveals a fresh and velvety structure, with excellent complexity. The palate concludes with a pleasantly bitter finish, perfect for enhancing dishes such as truffle fondue, Piedmontese agnolotti or medium-aged cheeses.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the renowned Castellizzano area, located in the municipality of Treiso, in the heart of the Langhe. The vineyards, situated at an altitude of about four hundred metres, enjoy a north-western exposure, an ideal climatic condition to favour the slow ripening of the Nebbiolo. The agronomic management focuses on limited yields per hectare, guaranteeing the harvest of healthy and concentrated bunches, capable of expressing a defined flavour profile faithful to the territory.
How it is produced
The winemaking process begins in stainless steel tanks, where temperature-controlled fermentation lasts for about a week. Subsequently, the wine ages for a few months in used French oak barrels, a fundamental technical choice to soften the tannic texture without overshadowing the integrity of the fruit. This attention to detail ensures a great immediate balance and gives the wine an excellent aptitude for ageing in the bottle.
History and curiosities
Founded in 1981, the Ugo Lequio winery expresses the soul of the Langhe DOC through this fine pure Nebbiolo. Produced at an altitude of 400 metres in the Castellizzano vineyard in Treiso, the wine matures elegantly in French oak barrels. This expert ageing gives life to a long-lived red, destined for a magnificent ten-year evolution and already awarded 92 points by Robert Parker and 90 by James Suckling. Housed in the iconic Albeisa bottle, this oenological excellence offers a tasting experience with deep and authentic charm.

At the beginning of the 1980s, he signed his first bottles, personally selecting the grapes from six hectares of vineyard at "Cascina Nuova", a farm located in the heart of the historic Gallina hill, once part of the great wine-growing estate of the Lords of Neive Conti Riccardi Candiani, now owned by Marcarino.
The precious experience acquired over time, research and experimentation in the vineyard and in the cellar, have contributed to making this producer a protagonist of the quality revolution that, in recent years, has led to the emergence of an elitist wine culture.
The conviction that a great wine is born over time and that waiting, managed without anxiety, gives it class, importance and longevity, leads Ugo to place his bottles on the market only after a long and proper rest. Read more
