Description
What kind of wine it is
Teuto by Tenute Lunelli is an organic red wine that expresses the authenticity of the Costa Toscana. This blend of Sangiovese grapes, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon has a rich structure and a dry style. Its ruby colour reveals aromas of blackberry, cherry and plum, with hints of violet, coffee and spices. On the palate, it is supported by fine and elegant tannins that lead the sip towards a long and persistent finish, with pleasant echoes of fruit.
Where it comes from
This wine is produced at the Podernovo Estate, among the Pisan Hills. The vineyards grow on silty-clay soils rich in fossils, which give the wine a distinctive structural character. The management follows the principles of organic farming, integrating precision techniques to select the best bunches. Thanks to a low yield per hectare, grapes of great concentration are obtained, fully respecting the environment and the local area.
How it is produced
Vinification begins with a cold pre-maceration to preserve the aromatic profile. After fermentation and about twenty days of maceration, the wine undergoes eighteen months of ageing: the Sangiovese matures in large barrels, while Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon rest in small oak barrels. A bottle maturation of at least six months completes the process, resulting in a harmonious wine with a balanced residual sugar content.
History and Curiosities
The Teuto comes to life at the Podernovo Estate, an oasis in the Pisan Hills revived thanks to the dedication of the Lunelli family. Its name evokes the ancient northern peoples who inhabited the Tuscan coast between the 3rd and 4th centuries. This captivating red wine is born from strict organic farming, with grapes carefully selected through the advanced Animavitis programme. The winery, built from local stone, blends harmoniously with the landscape, demonstrating respect for the environment.

Next to the winery there is a magnificent complex of late eighteenth century rural buildings in typical Tuscan style, which has been recently restored and transformed into exclusive apartments that offer guests an unforgettable stay in this enchanting and peaceful spot. The wines made at Tenuta Podernovo are Teuto, which matures for 20 months in large oak casks and highlights the zone’s natural vocation for producing a very elegant version of Sangiovese, and Aliotto, made from a blend of 60% Sangiovese together with Cabernet, Merlot and other local grapes. Both display an elegant tannic vein, well-balanced fruit and a finish of ingratiating intensity. The last release of Tenuta Podernovo is Auritea, a pure Cabernet Franc. All three wines have an elegant tannic texture, a balanced structure and a final of persuasive intensity: distinctive signature of this Estate. Read more
