Description

What kind of wine it is

Stefano Amerighi's Cortona Syrah is an organic red wine with an impenetrable ruby colour. On the nose, it releases aromas of blackberry jam, cherries, coffee, damp earth, cardamom and juniper. On the palate, it reveals a warm and creamy structure, balanced by lively acidity and well-integrated tannins, leading to a long finish. It pairs ideally with beef dishes, game, mature cheeses and spiced recipes.

Where it comes from

This Syrah originates in the heart of Tuscany, within the renowned Cortona area. Stefano Amerighi's work follows a strict biodynamic approach to faithfully reflect the Arezzo countryside. The absence of additives enhances the nature of the grapes, highlighting a dark aromatic profile linked to the soil. The identity of the Tuscan territory is expressed with great breadth and clarity in the glass.

How it is produced

The winery adopts an artisanal ethic that begins with foot treading carried out according to ancient methods. Maturation lasts about twenty months and is divided between concrete vats and oak barrels, a choice that imparts precision and structural support. The process concludes with bottle ageing for a year to best harmonise the components. Decanting for an hour before serving is recommended.

History and Curiosities

Born on the biodynamic estate of Stefano Amerighi in Cortona, this Syrah reflects a purely artisanal approach. The winemaking process follows the ancient practice of foot treading and the complete absence of additives, thus capturing the most authentic essence of the Tuscan territory. The twenty-month maturation takes place harmoniously between concrete vats and oak wood barrels, giving the wine precision and structural solidity. A year of bottle ageing blends the components of this organic red wine, a faithful reflection of the vintage.

My farm was born from a wish that matured over the years, to be able to produce a grand Syrah through the farming traditions of the family, passion, knowledge in the world of wine and the practice of biodynamics.

In order to reach this objective, Stefano Amerighi has identified an area of Chiuso di Cortona, named Poggiobello di Farneta, in the middle of which, as though it were a cru, there are two well exposed hills to south, south-east, closed within an old pebbly street to the west, a grove to the south and a ridge to the east to close the panorama.
