Description

What kind of wine it is

Langhe Rosso by Roagna is a still red wine that precisely expresses the character of Piedmont. This red blend offers a structured profile, with an intense colour and an elegant style, designed to ensure remarkable longevity. On the palate, it is harmonious and complex, making it the ideal accompaniment for elaborate first courses, succulent meats and platters of cured meats or mature cheeses. To fully appreciate its aromatic bouquet, it is recommended to decant for one hour before serving.

Where it comes from

This wine originates from the Langhe region, an area in Piedmont historically linked to prestigious wine production. The grapes come from young vines of around twenty years, selected exclusively through careful massal selection. This practice helps preserve the local genetic heritage, ensuring the continuity of viticulture and the authenticity of the region. The rigorous approach in the vineyard is reflected in a wine that enhances the natural concentration of the fruit, delivering a clear Langhe expression deeply connected to its origin.

How it is produced

Vinification begins with fermentation in wooden vats, naturally started by a pied de cuve of indigenous yeasts, which lasts for about ten days. Afterwards, the must remains in contact with the skins for at least two months using the ancient technique of submerged cap maceration with staking. This meticulous artisanal process concludes with a long maturation of about five years in oak barrels and concrete tanks. This choice of ageing gives stability and enhances the wine’s evolution, preserving its primary characteristics without imparting pronounced woody notes.

History and Curiosities

Roagna Langhe Rosso 2020 embodies the most authentic essence of Piedmont. It is produced from young vines cultivated through careful massal selection; fermentation, carried out by indigenous yeasts in wooden vats, precedes the traditional submerged cap maceration, which lasts for at least two months. This meticulous artisanal process culminates in five years of ageing between neutral oak and cement, bestowing this exceptional Langhe DOC with absolute elegance. An intense red, perfect for enhancing succulent meats, elaborate pasta dishes and traditional cheeses.

The true heritage of the Roagna family vineyards are the old vines. Plants that are at least 50 years old, in some cases even up to 80 years old. Vines that continue to produce few grapes but of high quality. Care and attention is dedicated to this heritage in the various estate vineyards between the Barbaresco and Barolo areas, in order to obtain a final product of the highest level.

Wines that fully express terroir, in the true sense of the term, where the grape variety and its place claim recognisability and authenticity in the glass. This is the desire of Alfredo and Luca Roagna.
