Description
What type of wine it is
Barolo Cannubi by Pico Maccario is a still red wine made from Nebbiolo grapes, an authentic expression of Piedmont and the prestigious Barolo, aged in French oak barrels. In the glass, it reveals a bright garnet red colour and offers an aromatic bouquet where ripe red fruit and floral hints of violet stand out. On the palate, it is energetic and elegant, distinguished by a well-structured tannic texture and a long persistence. The final spicy and sweet tobacco notes make it the ideal pairing for structured local dishes, red meats, and aged cheeses.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the famous Cannubi cru, an area renowned for its unique pedoclimatic characteristics. The vineyards are located at about two hundred and fifty metres above sea level, with perfect south-west exposure that promotes the optimal ripening of the grapes. The Guyot training system is rooted in soils composed of a mixture of Tortonian and Helvetian calcareous marls. This specific nature of the soil gives the Nebbiolo a distinct character, guaranteeing the elegance and remarkable capacity for evolution over time typical of this hilly area.
How it is produced
The grapes are strictly hand-harvested and undergo careful selection, followed by soft pressing and de-stemming. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, prolonging maceration on the skins for about fifteen days with the aid of frequent punching down and gentle pump-overs. The wine then rests for eighteen to twenty months in French oak barrels, completing its development with targeted bottle ageing before being released to the market.
History and curiosities
The result of the Maccario family's passion since 1997, Barolo Cannubi DOCG expresses the authentic viticultural vocation of Piedmont. The fine Nebbiolo grapes, hand-harvested on calcareous marls at an altitude of 250 metres, give life to an excellence of the region. Awarded 91 points by James Suckling, this structured red wine ensures over eight years of magnificent evolution.

Since 1997 it has been run by the two brothers Pico and Vitaliano Maccario who have been able to combine the main native vine also with international vines. Thus, most of the 85 hectares of vineyards are dedicated to Barbera, then subdivided into Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Freisa and Favorita.
The company is in contemporary style both in the management of the vineyards and in the technological innovations in the cellar. Even the logo is very innovative with a stylized rose that wants to indicate its position instead of traditional and important next to each row.
We are pleased to officially inform you that the Barbera d'Asti Lavignone 2023 has been awarded the Tre Bicchieri® of the guide Vini d'Italia 2025. An achievement that also this year confirms the loyalty of our customers and our continuous commitment to guarantee, from the vineyard to the glass, the highest quality that distinguishes us.
