Description

What kind of wine it is

Massolino presents a Barolo Riserva with a structured character and great prestige. Made from Nebbiolo grapes, this red wine reveals a broad and enveloping sensory profile. Visually, it displays a deep garnet red hue, heralding a bouquet that combines red fruit aromas with delicate floral notes. As it evolves, the primary scents give way to elegant nuances of undergrowth, tobacco and spices. Tasting reveals a profound texture, making it a perfect meditation wine as well as a solid companion for robust meats and mature cheeses.

Where it comes from

The grapes are grown in the Vigna Rionda cru, located in the municipality of Serralunga d’Alba. This hillside vineyard covers three hectares at around 300 metres above sea level. The vines, with an average age of about 50 years, sink their roots into a soil composed of calcareous marl, a fundamental geological matrix that imparts longevity and pronounced structure. The interaction between the soil composition and the local microclimate defines a rigorous identity from the very row. The care of this vineyard reflects a commitment to enhancing the value of old Piedmontese vines, highlighting their natural aromatic concentration.

How it is produced

The winery follows a traditional vinification process, starting fermentation at controlled temperatures. This is followed by a long maceration on the skins in oak vats, essential for extracting a solid and complex tannic structure. The wine then matures in large Slavonian oak casks for up to 42 months, ensuring a slow and measured evolution. The cycle concludes with a long final rest in the bottle, allowing the wine to reach the market at the height of its expressiveness. To ensure the proper opening of its sensory profile, it is recommended to decant for at least one hour before serving, maintaining a temperature between 18 and 20°C.

Proud producers of Barolo, Barbaresco and the typical wines of the Langhe, we were lucky enough to be born in Serralunga d’Alba, an area of absolute excellence in the geography of great Italian wines.
With tenacity and passion, we have been making wine since 1896.

Azienda Agricola Massolino Vigna Rionda is the dream of our great-grandfather Giovanni, who founded the estate in 1896. In those days, it was a traditional Langa farm, producing fruit and vegetables, raising livestock and making wine.

Our family is firmly at the helm of the historic estate that inhaled the vibrant air full of change of the late 19th century and navigated the tides of the first half of the 20th century. Today, we face the new challenges of the 21st century, in the capable hands of the third and fourth generations.

We are Massolino Vigna Rionda and we are writing a legacy with our wines.
