Description
What kind of wine it is
Barolo Bricco delle Viole by Marengo is a Piedmontese red wine with a bright ruby colour, an authentic expression of Nebbiolo. On the nose, it reveals the classic note of violet, enriched by hints of oriental spices and carob, set against a saline background with delicate touches of morello cherry. On the palate, it is full-bodied, driven by a vibrant freshness that balances the sip and leads it towards a persistent spicy finish. This structured profile combines rigour with remarkable depth of flavour.
Where it comes from
This red originates in the municipality of La Morra, a prime area for the production of Barolo. The Marengo winery has been dedicated to viticulture in this part of Piedmont for generations. Thanks to careful vineyard management, the wine faithfully reflects the character of its terroir, standing out for its classic style and structural finesse that best represents the meticulous production approach of the Marengo family.
How it is produced
The vinification process enhances the characteristics of the grape variety through a slow maturation of two years in small barrels. This ageing imparts harmony to the aromatic profile and prepares the wine for notable longevity, estimated between ten and fifteen years. To fully appreciate its potential, an hour of decanting is recommended. At the table, it pairs perfectly with mature cheeses and game, proving ideal for enhancing intense dishes such as a succulent roast pork with plum sauce.
History and Curiosities
The Marengo winery has its roots in Piedmont dating back to 1899, consolidating its winemaking vocation from the 1960s onwards. Entrusted to the expertise of oenologist Giuseppe Caviola, the company passes down a passion that guides the constant refinement among the vineyards and in the cellar. This meticulous journey culminates in the extraordinary Barolo Bricco delle Viole 2022, a pure expression of Nebbiolo awarded an impressive 97 points by James Suckling. A prestigious wine that encapsulates all the dedication of a historic Italian family.

In the 1960s, Aldo specialised the company in viticulture by purchasing new vineyards and improving the cellar equipment.
In 1986 his son Massimo joined him, continuing the company's improvement work. The company has always believed in the potential of Ruchè, an autochthonous vine cultivated since ancient times in Castagnole.
Today, the company cultivates 5 hectares of vineyards in the best hillside positions of Castagnole, where the wine is aged and bottled. Read more
