Description
What kind of wine it is
Barbacarlo is a still red wine by Lino Maga, representing the Province of Pavia. It appears as an intense ruby red with brilliant purple highlights. It is made from a blend of native grape varieties such as Croatina, Ughetta and Uva Rara. On the nose, it reveals notes of cherry, black cherry, lavender and rose petals, with hints of carob and nutmeg. On the palate, the freshness recalls the fruit pulp and is supported by lively tannins that provide perfect balance to the drink. It is recommended to serve at 16-18 °C after adequate oxygenation, ideal paired with cheeses, pork and oxtail stew.
Where it comes from
This wine has its roots in the Oltrepò Pavese, a hilly area of Lombardy historically dedicated to viticulture. Its identity is inextricably linked to the municipality of Broni and the renowned Barbacarlo hill, the family-owned vineyard that gives the wine its name. This particular terroir offers ideal soil and climate conditions for Croatina, Ughetta and Uva Rara, allowing the grapes to express a rich fruity and floral bouquet. The combination of soil composition and the local microclimate results in a distinct sensory profile, able to convey the character of its homeland with great authenticity and without compromise.
How it is produced
The wine is bottled in spring, a few months after the harvest, to preserve the integrity of the fruit and the natural aroma of the varieties used. This is followed by a period of maturation in barrels lasting about six months, essential to harmonise the youthful exuberance and give solidity to the structure on the palate. Thanks to these production choices that respect the raw material, the red acquires remarkable stability and develops an extraordinary ageing potential, able to evolve serenely in the cellar for between ten and fifteen years.
