Description
What kind of wine it is
The Champagne Quintette Chardonnay 5 Terroirs Extra Brut is a Blanc de Blancs by JM Sélèque, a pure expression of French elegance. Crafted using the Traditional Method, it enhances Chardonnay through careful vinification that incorporates precious Solera reserves matured in barrels. On the nose, the Champagne releases delicate aromas of bread crust, white-fleshed fruit and yellow flowers. On the palate, it is dry, supported by an Extra Brut dosage that ensures balance and a pleasant structure, offering a defined sip with great consistency of flavour.
Where it comes from
The Champagne originates from a mosaic of carefully selected plots in the villages of Vertus, Épernay, Pierry, Mardeuil and Dizy. The character of this wine is deeply linked to clay-silt soils, enriched by a significant presence of limestone, and to a valuable subsoil of Campanian chalk. These geological features create the ideal environment for vine growth, giving the Chardonnay a highly precise character. The interaction between these five terroirs provides structural balance and a regular texture, reflecting the profound agricultural expertise of JM Sélèque.
How it is produced
The production process strictly follows the Traditional Method, resulting in a harmonious blend of base wines. The vinification of the Chardonnay takes place partly in stainless steel tanks, with malolactic fermentation, and partly in oak barrels, where malolactic fermentation is avoided to preserve the grape's native freshness. After natural cold stabilisation and light filtration, the wine undergoes secondary fermentation in the bottle. The prolonged ageing on the lees, for a period of at least twenty-four months, ensures the development of complex aromas and remarkable persistence.
History and Curiosities
Born from the expertise of Maison J-M Seleque, founded in 1965, this exceptional Champagne Extra Brut celebrates the purity of Chardonnay by harmonising grapes from five distinct terroirs. The cuvée stands out for the integration of Solera reserves matured in wooden barrels, which give the wine unparalleled complexity. A fascinating detail characterises the ageing of at least twenty-four months: while the standard format rests under a crown cap, the Magnum matures under natural cork, further enhancing the allure of these bubbles.

Quickly passionate about vines, Richard, son of Henri and Françoise, studied oenology and began producing Champagne when he joined the winery in 1974.
He brought modern equipment for vine cultivation and winemaking: a digger tractor, a new press, vats, etc. As a result, the estate grew rapidly, and in the 1990s, production reached 50,000 bottles.
1995 will remain in the company's memories as the year Henri passed away. The 'Comédie' blend was created to honour him with his portrait on the metal cap. Françoise - the late Henri's wife - passed away in 2011.
The third generation arrived in 2008 - Jean-Marc joined the estate after studying wine and travelling abroad. He brought new life and a very personal approach to the creation of Champagne. Read more
