Description
Style of wine
The Jean Fournier Marsannay Rouge Clos du Roy is an organic red wine from Burgundy. Produced with extreme precision in the Marsannay region, it involves the use of a portion of whole bunches and a spontaneous fermentation carried out by indigenous yeasts. On the palate, it reveals a dry, elegant, and defined texture, constantly enlivened by a distinct mineral and saline dimension. The artisanal care ensures the wine has a solid capacity for ageing over time, supported by high acclaim from industry critics.
Provenance
This wine originates from the Marsannay region in Burgundy, from vineyards that benefit from an ideal eastern exposure, a factor that provides a clear linear tension to the sip. The soils are distinguished by a high limestone concentration, sharing marked geological similarities with some famous areas of the Montagne de Reims suited for Champagne. It is precisely this deep limestone matrix that shapes the terroir's identity, imparting great clarity, structural precision, and a vibrant aromatic energy.
How it is produced
Production begins with rigorous hand-harvesting in small crates, followed by careful grape sorting. The vinification keeps a portion of the bunches intact, managing extraction through moderate punch-downs and targeted pump-overs. The wine initially matures for twelve months in oak barrels, using a measured proportion of new wood. Once the blend is complete, it rests for a further six months in large-format barrels, a delicate final step designed to enhance its longevity.
